What to display

Use the licence holder name and licence number from the current licence. Do not rely on a trading name alone if that is not the licence-holder name.

Make it genuinely visible

“Clearly and prominently” is not a good match for pale six-pixel text hidden on an obscure legal page. A footer or dedicated licence-information area that appears across the public booking website is usually easier for visitors and staff to find.

Keep the record and website aligned

Store the same licence details in your business profile and include the expiry date as an internal reminder. When a renewed licence arrives, update both the operational record and the public website.

Check your own licence

The statutory guidance is a baseline for local authority inspectors in England. Your licence and local authority may contain additional conditions or presentation expectations, so check the documents that apply to your business.

Use a site-wide location

Because the licence-holder name and number must be clear and prominent on a website used for the licensable activity, a site-wide footer or consistent licence information block is easier to maintain than placing it on one buried page. If you have several booking or landing pages, make sure the information does not disappear on the pages owners actually use.

Check third-party booking pages

If you use a hosted booking page or a separate subdomain as part of the home boarding service, review how the licence information is presented there too. The practical question is whether a prospective customer can clearly identify the licence holder and number while using the website for the activity.

Add licence updates to your renewal workflow

When the licence renews, updating the website should be one of the close-out tasks alongside updating your internal business profile and filing the new licence document. That prevents the public site displaying an old number or other outdated information.

Do not invent badges or endorsements

Displaying the licence information is different from implying that the software, website or business is endorsed by the council or government. Keep the wording factual: licence holder, licence number, local authority if you choose to display it, and the current status shown on the actual licence.
